The mainstream media is ablaze with reports of a terrorist attack in New York, which left 8 dead and 11 others seriously injured.
Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, a native of Uzbekistan who came to the U.S. in 2010, drove a rented truck down a well-used bike path near the World Trade Center, injuring and killing those in his path. Most of the victims were tourists from Argentina who were in the States to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their college graduation.
After crashing into a school bus, Saipov exited his vehicle and shouted “Allahu Akbar,” Arabic for “God is Great.” Police shot and wounded him, and he is currently in custody. The 29-year-old attacker reportedly left a note, claiming he carried out the assault for ISIS, within the vehicle.
The incident is automatically being considered an act of terrorism by authorities, unlike acts of domestic terrorism. However, police say it does not appear to be part of a larger plot.
Saipov lived in Florida before relocating to New Jersey. Kobiljon Matkarov, a friend who knew him in Florida, says there was no indication he would carry out such an attack. In an interview over Facebook, Matkarov stated:
“He was very happy guy. He liked the U.S. He is no terrorist. He’s all the time happy, smiling all the time.”
After the attack, Trump Tweeted it “looks like another attack by a very sick and deranged person.” Most details, including motive, are not yet clear. But reports attacking Saipov’s personal character are already oozing out of the media. Take the New York Post for example, which thinks it’s crucial the world knows Saipov was once rude to a customer at a supermarket.
“We don’t know if this was a mentally ill or if he was affiliated with some other terrorist organization,” stated Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.). “But it’s a tragedy, and it’s just a very dangerous world. Everyone has to keep their antenna up at all times, regardless of where they are.”
The incident is similar to car attacks that have taken place in London, Barcelona and Berlin, all of which were committed within the last two years, according to the NY Daily News. Charlottesville comes to mind as well, but you can guarantee the MSM won’t be bringing attention to that.
Great news though! The city is going to increase their police force and security resources in response to the attack. Now citizens who enjoy authoritarianism can sleep peacefully at night – another win for Big Brother. Governor Andrew Cuomo states:
“We will be vigilant – more police everywhere. You’ll see them in the airports. You’ll see them in the tunnels. It’s not because there’s any evidence of any ongoing threat or any additional threat. It is just out of vigilance. It’s just out of caution.”
The FBI is joining the NYPD in their investigation. Updates will follow.
