Stranger Gifts Barbershop To Man Who Gives Free Haircuts To The Homeless On Street Corner

A  man, who offers free haircuts to Philadelphia’s homeless, was just gifted his own barbershop.

29-year-old Brennon Jones, who started giving free haircuts to the homeless a year ago, told Today Style: “Totally free. Feed em, provide them with clothing, toiletries, the whole nine yards.”

“Wherever I would see a homeless guy sitting on a corner, holding a sign or something, I would get out and start a conversation,” Jones added. “I started to kind of beat myself up. I felt as though I didn’t do enough. I missed out on the opportunity to potentially change his life, in a sense … to help out more.”

“I asked if there was something I could do to put a smile on his face other than give him money,” Jones said. “He said, ‘No, not really.’ And I said, ‘Well, I have an idea. What if I can offer you a haircut?'”

His simple act of kindness during the winter months and his social media posts didn’t go unnoticed. 44-year-old Sean Johnson, a fellow barber, just gave Jones a fully renovated barber shop. Johnson, moved by Jones’ deeds, told Fox 29:

“It wasn’t about me giving a barbershop, when you look at the homeless and the things that they need, I looked at it as more. I built something and I want to see it keep going and I want to see it do a great thing.”

The new shop will open next month, with days set exclusively to give haircuts to the homeless.

“He said listen, I’ve got a building I want you to come check out. He said do you like this place? I said yeah I like it, he tossed me the key and said it’s yours,” Jones told FOX 29.

Johnson thinks of himself as a mentor to Jones, a younger barber who’s learning to be a business owner. He told Told Style:

“What Brennon is doing is really excellent,. I’m down there on Mondays helping him with the homeless. We’re just one big old family.”

As for Jones, he’s just happy to continue doing what he’s passionate about:

“It’s just a haircut. But to them, it’s like a new beginning in a sense. It’s like a breath of fresh air.”

  1. Beautiful story but I see an issue. A person who gives free cuts to the homeless has no overhead like electricity, water bills, taxes. What happens now? How can free still be an option? Not only that but now there will be loitering and the more people in one space, the more chance at problems arising. Sometimes, I think good should be left alone.
